Week 7 - Of Prom Dresses and High Maintenance Queens…

Yet another challenge that made me think “Oh yay! This is gonna be gooood…”

And it was.

The laughs, the tears, the fit pitching and foot stamping, Christian in the floor in a fetal ball, overbearing mothers, teenagers pouting, bejeweling, scraps of lace and metallic fabric everywhere…it was glorious.

I want candy! I want caaandy!

This week’s challenge was the first challenge of this season which absolutely thrilled me. I have to admit, I’ve gotten a bit bored with what I have come to call the “Rumplestiltskin” challenges. You know the ones where the designers are given a crap situation to work with and no budget at all and told “Here’s a room full of straw and a spinning wheel. You have until tomorrow morning to spin it into gold or a depraved pedophiliac gnome will come take your firstborn child. Make it work!”

I had high hopes for this challenge to be different from the moment Heidi announced that there would be a field trip involved….

Hiiii-ya! I karate chop Episode 4 just under the wire…

I don’t know what it is about this season, but this is the second episode in a row where I found myself thinking “Wow, I didn’t see that coming..” at the end. And not in a good way.

This week’s challenge bordered on the sadistic, so of course, I was glued to the screen.

Prediction: This season will be fantastic…

Apologies for being so late, but “Project Runway” comes on at 10 on the left coast, which means it ends at 11. I had to be awake yesterday at 5 a.m. so unfortunately I didn’t make it to the premiere on time. I had business to attend to this morning, so I’ve only just now had the chance to sit down and have some quality time with my TiVo.

All that being said, let’s dish some dirt and talk some smack about people…

I predict…drama…

November 14, 2007 By: ArchangelRobriel Category: ArchangelRobriel, Picking Winners? No Comments →

Beyond that, I’m terrible at predicting who’s going to stay and who’s going to get auf’d.

But hey, I’ll step out on a limb and reveal my pre-show predictions anyway and it’ll give you all something to point and laugh at once the final three are actually chosen.

So, my initial pick for Top Three:

- Carmen. I’ve been around SCAD graduates and they’re some lean, mean, creation machines. Carmen double majored in illustration and fashion design. Good lord woman! Overachiever? Check. I know how nigh unto impossible pulling off a double major at SCAD would be unless you are an extraordinary talent with an insane amount of drive. Plus I think her background in architecture will give her a leg up on the others in the more unconventional challenges.

And PS, to quote Edina and Pats for a moment: “LaCroix dahling, LaCroix…”

- Rami’s already being handicapped as a shoe-in for the top three, which may not mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but in this case I think the speculators may be right. The fact that Rami has already established himself as a successful designer and the fact that he’s already been to Bryant Park all on his own tell me that Rami’s got the nerve and the chops to be a major competitor.

I had a hard time picking a third candidate because nobody was really standing out for me yet just reading over the Bios and watching interview clips. Since I have to pick a third contender, I’m gonna go with

- Sweet P - despite my initial, visceral shudder response to her name (Sweet P? Seriously? No…seriously?). I’m choosing her merely on the basis of her age. Age and guile will trump youth and inexperience any time.

- This is where I think Christian has the potential for an epic, cartoon-wall splat. You can be immensely talented, but you’re still 21 and that means that you’ve got a lot to learn when you’re thrown into the pit with a lot of dinged up and streetwise old alley cats.

- I did think that Kit might’ve been a contender…then I went to her website for Kit Pistol and….well, I like to think that I have a pretty deep appreciation for “out there” fashion and even still I found myself looking at her clothes and thinking “It’s like a gypsy’s laundry basket exploded all over a model..” So unless she really reigns it in, I don’t think she’ll last long with Michael and Nina around.

First to go home?

I’m gonna vote for - Jillian - solely on the basis of the fact that in her bio she says her signature look is a sweater dress with tights and that she cites Patrick Nagel as a source of creative inspiration. To me this screams “Help! I’m trapped in the 80’s and I can’t get past this polyacrylic fiber blend!” But I may be projecting there..

Although I have to admit, I’m secretly hoping that it’s - Chris who gets eliminated early on. I want to root for the hometown boy, and he was a designer for “Beach Blanket Babylon” but the leopard print mumuu with lime green skinny tie do NOT inspire confidence.
Besides that, I have a little bit of inside information on Chris since I have a friend who works in New York City. He said that Chris came into his store and was a major Diva, throwing attitude and being rude to everyone (as opposed to Tim Gunn, who was apparently a delight and wonderful to everyone). So he can just suck it and go home.

Also…just a word of warning to you all, Us magazine and Star magazine both had major spoilers in thier reviews of the P.R. premiere so if you don’t want to hear some news about who left the show early - avoid, avoid, avoid!
