I Love My Jeans
Hey, Jeremy, you aren’t first!
The curtain opens on week nine, and the usual morning at the New Gotham.
And so, after several minutes of watching Victorya refer to Sweet P as Kit (I miss Kit), the crew is taken on a field trip to a warehouse full of Levi’s and white cotton. They are to create an iconic denim look. But first, we have a foot race? So, they run, they grab jeans, and they get back to the workroom, and have notions from Levi as well. Predictably, there is no budget, and minimal time. Yay, jeans.
Because I had to deal with work (hey, I’m a writer, we keep weird hours) in the middle of this, I will cut to the runway:
We get to the runway, and Heidi announces that from this challenge forward there will be no more immunity.
Chris: Halter-strapped denim dress, a twist on the little black dress. But kind of dated, and the judges agree. Also the raw edge he left (that Tim warned against) did get called.
Ricky: Cute, flirty, corset topped, ruffled skirt. Yes, he cries, but hey, happy tears.
Sweet P: A variant on the tube dress, with darker side panels, and great piecing.
Victorya: Trench coat. This doesn’t seem all that special, really. Reminds me of any old jean-jacket with a skirt attached. (Michael Kors: “It looks like a party skirt got glued onto a jean jacket.” Hah!
Rami: Cute, very tailored, trimmed with zippers (I liked that part). Thrilled that Rami can make close that don’t involve Grecian drapery.
Christian: Jeans and a jacket. He gets points for achievement, at least. Motocross inspired, and interesting.
Jillian: A coat, but not well-executed. And it reminded me of that Victorian rockstar vampire look. Too many elements just didn’t synch.
Out: Victorya.
Winner: Ricky. And with this piece he really deserved it. Also, the dress is going on Levi.com
Thoughts: I was concerned Chris would be sent home, as his work has been so uneven, but Victorya’s was just so boring, and boring is the heinous sin of Project Runway.
A note to Rob: You know, as much as I hate to admit it, Christian has grown on me. I still think he needs lessons in how to speak effectively in public, and he has a TON of growing up to do, but his work is generally pretty interesting. (If we both like him, he must be doomed, right?)
Also: I will, at some point, go back and put in my own thoughts for the weeks where I just wasn’t up to writing. Really. I’m in a bad place, writing-wise right now. Thanks, Jeremy, for listening last night. It helped
